Source: Bending the Climate to Your Will – Profit Agro
With medical grade cannabis, stability and uniformity is the key to success
During the first two hours of blackout, 1000 square meters of cannabis can transpire up to 200 liters of vapor into the air. If not managed properly results can be devastating. A cultivation system must be designed for the sole purpose of creating the ultimate growing environment where the plants can flourish.
With medical grade cannabis, stability and uniformity is the key to success. Even small lapses of high humidity and insufficient lighting, when not taken into consideration can render an entire crop inadequate. At Profit Agro the last 3 years have been spent diligently researching cannabis cultivation and creating tailor-made solutions to optimize the sun’s power, save energy and meticulously control the climate on every level.
“I commit only to what I know, and I know only what I take the time to learn”, says Amir Fox, owner and Managing Director, ProFit Agro. You must first understand the needs and unique traits of your crop, only then can you begin to build a cultivation system. This system will be the plant’s first line of defense, filtering the local climate to provide the best growing environment possible.
Three years ago, the experts at ProFit Agro began to see an increase in Cannabis related projects. Hesitant at first, they began to diligently research the vast field of medical cannabis procurement and cultivation. Each project brought new information to light. However, there were a few baseline issues that remained constant. Lighting, especially UV rays vastly affect quality, sanitation and in many cases quantity. Temperature and humidity play a defining role in disease control. Lastly, operational flow is crucial to meeting the ever-rising standards and regulations and maintaining a profitable and sustainable grow for years to come.
Flexibility in the design and planning process is crucial and as projects progressed different solutions presented themselves and others were developed from scratch. The first of these was the Top Light Greenhouse which was originally designed to grow high value crops in extreme weather conditions in place of glasshouses. Built specifically for the F-Clean film which is highly durable (lasts over 15 years), is open to UV rays and has a diffused light transmission of up to 93%. In the graph we can clearly see the massive difference in the amount and quality of light that the film allows in when compared to Polycarbonate. The Top light greenhouse is perfect for utilizing the power of the sun and saving immensely on energy consumption.
Humidity levels were the next hurdle. Of all the solutions presented none were able to meet the basic requirements, even in theory. The issue most dehumidifiers have is that even if they can extract massive amounts of water from the air, the plants transpire and immediately add more. During the day this may be manageable using forced ventilation and other conventional techniques, but at night when the blackout screen is closed, it becomes a major issue. After careful research and planning, a climate regime that would meet the standard was introduced and developed.
The High Dry Climatization Unit is designed to extract vapor and treat the air by cooling, heating and filtering as needed. It disperses treated air evenly throughout the plants habitat to maintain a crisp and clean growing environment. It operates with the simple technology of a heat pump with options for heating and cooling and can also be used to disperse CO2. There are several dehumidification regimes to choose from and the climate control box chooses which to use based on energy efficiency and agronomic requirements.
“We are working tirelessly on redefining operating costs in terms of temperature, humidity, lighting and radiation control”, Gavriel Yinhar, Marketing Director, ProFit Agro. ProFit Agro is among the few companies capable of supplying a complete cultivation system turn-key and ready to go.”
At ProFit Agro, all design, engineering and integration is done in house, under one roof, making the process vastly more efficient and flexible. Whether designing irrigation and fertigation systems that are tailored to the genetics of each crop, rolling benches to optimize floor space, uniform climate control or the operational flow of an entire complex, the wide range of experts are trained to study all the variables, work together with their clients and always remain available should the need arise.
